Speaker Bio
Gurminder Bhagrath
Chief Operating Officer
Plane Saver Credit Union
Gurminder is an accomplished business leader with over 12 years of management, strategy, and regulatory risk experience in the financial sector and senior management roles. He has worked for Plane Saver Credit Union for over 3 years, concentrating on transforming front office operations, migrating systems, and working with FinTech companies to find automated solutions. He previously worked for TSB for ten years carrying out various roles which included Cluster Manager, Area Performance and Operations Manager and Digital Transformation Manager. He has also worked to implement cyber security standards to meet the regulation set by the FCA and PRA, in one of the UK’s largest Credit Union.
Gurminder has worked endlessly to transform Plane Saver’s member journeys and back-end processes to be smooth, friendly, and efficient. He has reduced the turnaround times for the joining process by over 96% taking it from 3 days to less than 15 minutes, and the lending journey from application to payment is now on average 12 hours, this is comparative to 7 to 10 days prior. This has resulted in the lending book increasing from £15 million to over £35 million, and membership from 15,000 to over 25,000 in the last 24 months. Gurminder is an innovative out of the box thinker, and believes nothing is impossible, this attitude has resulted in Plane Saver setting up an aggregator portal to generate business via comparison website channels, one of the first Credit Unions to do so in the country. He will often be quoted saying ‘if it’s perfect, it’s probably too late!’
Gurminder joined the credit union world to make a difference across the sector, his ambition is to help all credit unions have streamline automated journeys with excellent systems at an affordable price. This will allow all credit unions to provide the same quick and easy journeys promoted by others in the financial sector. Most importantly it will allow for members, who need financial support to obtain this easily. He is in the process of integrating big companies to plug into credit union systems to help support the sector’s progression. There is a great sense of giving back and to help, this is a great sector to do that.
Gurminder is a keen sportsman who was the youngest cricket captain in the Middlesex Premier League aged 17. He is also part of an organisation called SWAT which help feed over 3000 homeless people a week across the UK. (include if appropriate)
